STOS 3D REVIEW
I first received STOS 3D on the coverdisk of a magazine, and I was
really excited. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a lot worse than I
thought it was.
You get the two extensions which have quite good commands which allow
flexible control over your 3D 'worlds'. The drawing out is quite fast,
and you get plenty of example programs (although one doesn't work!).
There is also an Object Modeller where you create your own 3D shapes
for your game or demo.
One of the best features is the fact that you can move the shapes along
any or all of the 3 axes (axises? axii?) on interrupt! by using
commands similar to MOVE X and MOVE Y....
Unfortunately, there are two really major downfalls with this
extension. The first one is the fact that you cannot hold data in
memory continuously. This means you have to load them in every time you
run the program...boo! Secondly, the size of the shapes bank is
absolutely COLOSSAL! To make an estimate, a basic aeroplane shape, a
missile, an ST, and an amiga (no capital A - hah!) would take up
between 100 and 200 kilobytes!
Summary: This may be handy for a good simple-to-create 3D game (as long
as you have about 2 Meg's!), but it is just too inadequate for any
other uses. Never mind...
